About Our Curious George Project

Grade One students love George, the curious monkey, in the stories by H.E. and Margaret Rey! Is it because George gets into so much trouble, but then always manages to make things right?

The goals of this project were:

-  to foster a love of reading
-  to compare books from the same author
-  to develop an understanding of the writing process including planning, organizing, writing a rough draft, editing, and publishing a final draft in the form of an illustrated book.
-  to share and celebrate the writing projects

Using the flow map from our study of thinking skills, the children planned and organized their original ideas using the familiar format from the Curious George books. They received assistance from teachers and parent helpers to edit their work, then made a final copy in book form. Each child read his or her completed story to the class and answered questions and received compliments about their work.

Thank you very much to the parents who assisted with this project. We hope you enjoy reading our stories as much as we enjoyed writing them!
