- The rib cage protects the lungs and heart, as well as the stomach,
liver, and other parts of the upper abdomen.
STERNUM (breastbone)
- This three-part bone gives very good protection to the center of the chest.
- All 12 ribs are attached to the backbone.
- This is the rubbery part that holds the bones together and makes them
flexible.
-
The floating ribs are the ribs that don’t reach to the
front of the chest.
During
hard exercises the muscles in your chest expand further by pushing the
breastbone upwards. This allows more air to come that we need to help us keep
exercising, into the lungs and the muscles.
If
you were to breath in as deeply as you could you notice that your chest expands
and relaxes. When you inhale the air travels upwards and when you exhale the
air goes downwards. The rib cage is very important to your body with out it you
would die.
